Clearing, Grounding & Protection

Three things I was absolutely, definitely not taught by the resource I first picked up before beginning to dive into intentional connection with the spiritual realms and I paid a bit of a price.

Thankfully, my friends Lorena and Lucia drilled this into me in our How to Read Your Akashic Records - Level 1 course, and it is something I have taken time to explore more and more throughout my practice over the years: Sometimes out of necessity, sometimes habit, and sometimes fear if I am being entirely honest.

Now, I did have some questions that go into a next layer of this that I plan to address, but for now I want to focus on the baseline for each of these three things (and yes, they are three separate things):

  1. What is it?

  2. Why is it important?

  3. How to do it?

Expand the menu below to learn more!

    1. What: Simply put, it is the practice of eliminating energies that are not yours, or that do not healthily support your highest good. This could mean stagnant energy from past interactions you've had in the space, intentions others have placed on your space - knowingly or not - based on their thoughts about you or even a prior owner/resident, and can also extend to non-earthly entities (ghosts, spirits, etc.). That said, some ghosts and spirits can be okay to keep around for the short term, but that is a topic for another day! Just remember, energy is neutral.

    2. Why: Boundaries, baby! It's your home and it is up to you who - or what - you get to co-create it with. You deserve to feel safe, and supported, always. Clearing is a way of reaffirming that for yourself, and explicitly letting others know what is the case.

    3. How: There are many ways and they all will come down to one thing: Intention. Make sure it is clear. One way I like to do it is with sage and selenite or sometimes a bell to break up areas of stagnant energy. First, open all the windows and doors (where possible). Then, I start with intention setting, and light a white candle for protection (more on that later). I move through my home counterclockwise with sage (lit) and selenite and use a fan to blow the energy into the corners, walls, over areas I use a lot etc. If I feel one spot needs more attention, I let myself stay there. I focus on that intention, use words sometimes to reaffirm it, breathwork - whatever feels right in the moment. At the end, I go back around clockwise and using something if high vibration (like the bell, or Palo Santo) I Invite the supportive, divine energy in. At the end, close out in an intentional way and always have a shower to wash off any lingering energy (be intentional when you do it). You can even use sea salt scrub for an added cleansing element!

  • Aka creating alignment and flow within your chakras so that your root chakra can provide anchor, guidance, and support.

    1. What: I guess I sort of just explained it, but to expand on that, grounding is the practice of activating root chakra energy and connecting downward - to earth and what it represents and offers. The root chakra is our centre for safety and security, and energetically is required not just to support the upper chakras (like a foundation) but to tether them to mother earth - to tether you to mother earth.

    2. Why: In terms of day to day, this helps provide a sense of safety and "home" within the world. If someone does something that conflicts with your values, you may feel shaken but your root can help you anchor through the storm and feel okay regardless of what chaos goes on around you. In terms of energy and entity work, this anchor is pivotal in strengthening your connection with the divine and also providing protection. If you only connect up, you're like a ladder suspended without touching the ground. Not very secure if you decide to climb it, right? It waves around, dangling precariously, people could jump up and grab the bottom or climb after you . . .same goes for the energetic ladder you create when connecting to the Akasha or realms in other manners. The root chakra connection (and then all lower chakras) help protect against this. They create the base from which you can grow upwards, like the roots of a tree.

    3. How: One of my favourite and most accessible ways is to stand in the grass with bare feet and just focus on the sensations. And yes, it can really be that simple. If I want to, I will do a chakra cleanse and opening through my body while doing this and then focus on that energy flowing into earth and back up through me and into ether and then back down. Just make sure to close down the centres at the end! You don't want entities to come seeking that leaking energy. I've also used a hardy meal eaten very intentionally, and Hz music aligned with the root chakra (which happens to be playing right now as I write this). Here is a playlist if you want to check it out on Spotify!

    1. What: Intentionally guarding your energy (and space) against lower vibrational entities/energies that do not support your divine highest good.

    2. Why: Many reasons but one most practical is, if you don't secure your energy you have less of it to apply - in life but also in your spiritual practices. You may recall from one of my previous posts I talked about hearing a lot of voices when I was "in the records". That was the cocophony of the records - through a very subtle connection - and also lower vibrational energies (ghosts, spirits etc.) that were not of the records. It interfered with my ability to do readings, and also left me hanging like that ladder that doesn't touch the ground. Vulnerable, and not in the way I want.

    3. How: One easy way is to find a guided meditation on protection. Often, they will include surrounding yourself in a golden or violet light, and may include calling on arch angels or other supports like your ancestors to assist. You can also use wards in your home (these go in the four corners and centre of the house, and have objects within them that connect to the elements to call on the elemental energies for protection - coexisting with some energies is totally okay!). I like to use nature. I have cedar and rosemary that I have dried and hang above the doors, and will also burn it in my cleansings on occasion. Whatever you do, just be intentional about it! You can even simply set the intention of inviting only that which is for your highest good as you walk through your doorway, or whenever you open a window, which will help to create a barrier. Crystal grids can also be used!
