I’m still unsure what to do about this part. I want others to feel safe, and that also should not come at the expense of my own safety. Security being one of my core values, this is hitting me hard. I also don’t want to be someone who doesn’t trust people.

I have a lot to say regarding what happened yesterday; And what’s been happening for quite some time.

I noticed a lot of friends popping up, sharing their personal thoughts, their grief, their fear, other posts with words that affirmed their feelings when they might not have known how to get the words together.

I shared too. I always do. That’s something you’ll notice across my pages, is that whether it be a personal or professional page I do not stay silent on political views.

Why?

I remember the distinct moment in grade 9 when a friend looked at me and saw the gap. We were standing in the high school gymnasium, at the south west corner by the doors, and she exclaimed “Did you pull out your eye lashes?”.

My secret was out.

This topic came from my Facebook Group, The Chrysalis and full disclosure, I’ve put it off for quite a while because I did not know where to start. So, why not the beginning?

My mom recalls a story from when I was a kid quite often. She came down to the main living room and found that my name had been carved into the windowsill. She questioned me quite adamantly and to this day, I hold my ground that I did not do it. We still don’t know the truth.

I know, not so bone chilling . . . though there are others, and some more frightening than others.

I have about 27 years of chronic migraines. My mom gets them as well, and I got my first one when I was six years old. I remember it so clearly: It was what I believe to be the last family Christmas dinner we hosted at our house. I remember the green walls, all the people and their blurry faces, and laying down in my mom’s room and her giving me children’s Tylenol and milk.

The depression started early. July would come and midway through I would already be dreading the next month, stewing in anticipation of the drop, the sadness, the reclusiveness . . . And this didn’t happen because of some note-worthy event — At least not that I can pinpoint.

What do I mean by “continuity” and “identity”? Well, you are here on earth in embodied form. You have a physical vessel that moves, feels and acts, and carries through the day and interacts with the world around you. That physical vessel regenerates fully every 10 years or so. Every single cell regenerates. So here’s the question, what makes that body you if it has fully changed over that 10 year period?

These past two years, Pride took on a very different meaning for me. It became a time to experience joy in safety and also to grieve all the times I’ve felt unsafe - all the times we (members of the LGBTQIA2s+) feel unsafe, every single day.
